Service & Support
Preventive Maintenance for Industrial Equipment & Automation
Recurring inspection and maintenance can identify wear, component issues and service needs before they become larger production problems. Steel Square can provide preventive-maintenance support, service reporting and follow-up repair for industrial equipment and automation.
What we see
Recurring Failures & Deferred Maintenance
- Rising unplanned downtime
- Equipment past its service interval
- Recurring wear-related failures
Maintenance Done While the Machine Still Runs
Preventive maintenance is scheduled work carried out before a failure: inspection, lubrication, adjustment, wear-part replacement and the condition checks that catch a problem while it is still small.
It is distinct from reactive maintenance, which is repair, and from predictive maintenance, which uses monitored condition data to time the work. Preventive work runs on an interval, and its whole value is that the interval belongs to you.
What PM Can Include
The exact checklist depends on the machine, but maintenance work can cover hydraulics, drive components, structural fasteners, safety devices, cycling, lifts, bushings and cable routing, along with broader conveyor, chain, sensor, controls and air maintenance procedures in cold-storage equipment.
Those are not interchangeable items. Chain and drive components wear predictably and suit an interval. Safety devices need proving rather than inspecting. Cable routing on a moving system is a fatigue item, and it fails at the flex point rather than at the connector.
The Cost of the Window
The argument for PM is not that machines last longer, although they do. It is that the work happens in a window you chose instead of one production chose for you.
A wear part replaced during a planned Sunday shutdown and the same part replaced mid-shift on a Wednesday are the same part. What differs is the lost production, the collateral damage a failure under load causes to the components around it, the overtime, and whether the correct spare was on site or on a truck.
Deferred Maintenance Compounds
Skipped intervals do not stay skipped. Misalignment accelerates bearing wear, a worn bearing loads the shaft, and a loaded shaft takes out the coupling and the seal. By the time it stops the line, the repair is no longer the part that was due.
From Inspection to Follow-Up Work
Preventive maintenance should create a useful next action. Findings can feed parts replacement, repairs, controls work, fabrication, modernization or a larger project when the inspection shows something that needs more than routine service.
An inspection report that ends with a tick and no recommendation has told you nothing you can plan against.
Recurring Agreements
Recurring preventive-maintenance agreements can be built around the equipment, the operating environment and the maintenance needs of the facility, so the interval matches the duty rather than a generic schedule.
